John C. Bartlett Jr. serves on the Ocean County (New Jersey) Board of Chosen Freeholders. Bartlett has served Ocean County for 21 years as a Freeholder. As chairman of Freeholder Board's Parks and Recreation Committee, Bartlett has been an advocate for the expansion of the parks system. He has supported the acquisition and development of several parks, golf courses and conservation areas. Freeholder Bartlett also oversees the Ocean County Natural Lands Trust Fund, established by the voters in 1997 to dedicate 1.2 cents per $100 of equalized property value, in order to preserve environmentally sensitive lands in Ocean County.
   Bartlett is an Ocean County native who has lived in Pine Beach since 1947 and was a member of the inaugural graduating class of Ocean County College. Freeholder Bartlett has served as Mayor of Pine Beach and has retired as an American History Teacher from Toms River High School North. He now teaches political science classes at Ocean County College. In January 2007, Bartlett retired from Ocean County College, effective June 2007.
